From 1983 to 2013, Ah! records was perhaps the least successful record label of all time. Plagued by 30 years of bad luck, vandalism and disinterest, it was kept alive only by the unstinting lunatic faith of reclusive Svengali-founder Andy Matthews, whose ennui is encapsulated thus: "from the outset, our punk-inspired ethos was 'go away' and only in this sense was the label a great success… We were edgy, romantic, naive and paranoid, and attracted bad luck like vomit to a fly. By 2012 I'd had enough, and my shoes had started bleeding. I accidentally swam to Chicago with the tapes in my hat, and went back to washing ducks and crying." If Tip Top Recordings hadn't discovered the master tapes these 20 tracks by 18 artistes and a box called Dwayne would have been lost for eternity. We proudly invite a new generation of fans into this lost cul-de-sac of desperate rock, quixotic pop and now fancy double-gatefold cyan blue and Halloween orange coloured vinyl.
