“Personality” is an ode to divorce. While I have never been divorced, nor have I ever been married, my parents got divorced when I was very young. Unfortunately, they have fought in front of me as well as talked negatively about each other to me. “Furniture? Over my dead body…” is supposed to refer to them fighting over stuff (even though I’m not sure that they fought over furniture specifically haha). And my mom has admitted that several of her failed relationships were probably due to the fact that she was with them, despite many character flaws, because they were funny and had “personality.”
