Snails from Bristol, UK, are an innovative pop group known for their unique sound which draws from a variety of influences including the Kinks, Kevin Ayers, and Syd Barrett, and includes songwriter Dan Weltman, who studied film music composition at Bristol University, along with Anna Kissell on vocals, Holly McIntosh on bass and vocals, Steve Dixon on drums, and Matthew Chaney on keys. Their sound is described as having a deft lyricism and craftsmanship, much admired by BBC6’s Gideon Coe and the iconoclastic Pete Paphides. The Snails third LP ‘Just Look Around’ their 2nd for Glass Modern, 10 songs that unfold with an origami-like precision and attention to detail, the group expand their lush, outsider-pop template into new sonic and emotional territory, alchemising existential doubt into condensed elegies of often breathtaking beauty.
