After the profound and epic journey of their acclaimed pandemic-era masterpiece ‘Red Alert in the Blue Forest’, Finland’s celebrated Von Hertzen Brothers return with their ninth studio album, ‘In Murmuration’. In true Von Hertzen Brothers style, this album creatively juxtaposes their previous release. Whilst their imaginative multi-genre hard rock and harmonies remain, the band’s artistic pendulum has swung more towards an air of optimism and renewal. The result is a work filled with big choruses, stadium rock anthems, art-rock with 90s vibes and catchy power-pop. The band formed in 2000 and quickly rose to prominence as one of Finland's most important and influential rock acts. The three brothers Mikko, Kie and Jonne with drummer Sami Kuoppamäki are joined by multi-instrumentalist Markus Pajakkala, who performed with the brothers on their acoustic tour in 2023. Notable for his saxophone solo on ‘Peace Patrol´ (2022), Markus brings a new dynamic to the album. Guests on the album include a gospel ensemble and the Budapest Art Orchestra. Renowned for seamlessly blending complex arrangements and uplifting melodies, Von Hertzen Brothers have not only conquered their homeland but have made a significant impact on the European and global music scenes. The band have forged their own path as a powerful touring band and have performed in 22 countries. Their latest tour in Finland sold out, and it was followed by festival slots in Europe including the UK, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands. In 2025, the band will venture further afield as plans include the prestigious progressive rock themed ‘Cruise to the Edge’ in the US. During their career, Von Hertzen Brothers have consistently achieved commercial success in their homeland. Out of their eight studio albums, the last seven have reached the top 5. These include three number 1s with ‘Love Remains the Same’ (2008), ‘Stars Aligned’ (2011) and ‘New Day Rising’ (2015). Their ability to mould complex arrangements into vivid musical landscapes led to an Emma Award (the Finnish equivalent of a Grammy) and a Progressive Music ‘Anthem of the Year’ Award in the UK as well as nominations and plaudits along the way. It is safe to say Von Hertzen Brothers have cemented their position as one of the most important rock acts that have emerged from Finland.
