Edinburgh-based five-piece rEDOLENT kicks off 2024 with the release of their latest single 'jUST tRYING tO rELAX' via the burgeoning Scottish label & artist house Post Electric (home to Hamish Hawk, Humour, Iona Zajac & Voka Gentle).
Close behind the introspective offering 'How are you making it look so easy? (Oshie-T),' rEDOLENT’s latest single, 'jUST tRYING tO rELAX,' delves into the confusion and chaos of anxiety, vividly portraying a panic attack in first person. Doubling down on their meticulous blend of angular-pop meets electronic, the song weaves a course through ambient loops and idiosyncratic melodies while laying the architecture for frontman Robin Herbert’s distinctive conversational flow.
In discussing their new single, rEDOLENT describes, “‘jUST tRYING tO rELAX’ delves into the cycle of losing control to anxiety, uttering unintended words to loved ones, and the subsequent instant regret and apology, with the increasing absurdity as the pattern repeats." The single is accompanied by a self-produced video, serving as the song's aesthetic anchor. Featuring the band in moments of panic and dissociation, the video is captured in their familiar DIY style, emphasising rEDOLENT's unvarnished and honest appeal.
Led by brothers Danny and Robin Herbert, with Andrew Turnbull on drums, Robbie White on bass, and Alice Hancock on live samplers and backing vocals, rEDOLENT are gearing up for 2024, focusing on their upcoming debut album. Their debut LP marks a moment of the band taking control while confident in their warped take on the world, offering harsh reality and joyous escapism over the course of ten sleek, considered tracks.
With all of their output created at Post Electric Studios in Leith, rEDOLENT operate as sole creators of their artistry; writing, recording, producing and mixing their work independently. Whilst citing influences as diverse as Mount Kimble, king krule, Animal Collective, brockhampton, LCD soundsystem, Madvillain, Tom Vek, Clairo, CAN and Talking Heads, the band are undoubtedly operating in their own lane and carving a bespoke sound, which has been recognised and applauded from titles including NME, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, DIY, Hunger, Notion, The Skinny - and still, it’s just the beginning.
