With their most recent effort, Crime & Compass, Anchoress have
delved deeper into creating songs that defy categorization. On the
surface, the album continues right where Set Sail left off. But,
upon further inspection it becomes clear that the band has done
some growing up. Crime & Compass is far from being just another
run-of-the-mill hardcore punk album. The attack of the songs is
schizophrenic in the best of ways. From the blistering rock n roll
swagger of tracks like Curtain Call to the dark, vicious lashings of
Last Sailing of the Miskatonic Mariner and the ebb & flow of the
epic Dear Home, the band defiantly explores the outer reaches of
their sound, feverishly looking to expand their creative territory.
