In November 2026, Merge Records re-released two 1982 releases of The Clean, an iconic band on the New Zealand indie scene: the second EP Great Sounds Great, Good Sounds Good, So-So Sounds So-So, Bad Sounds Bad, Rotten Sounds Rotten!! and the single 7" "Getting Older". Recorded in Christchurch with Doug Hood and Chris Knox, Great Sounds Great develops a more eclectic and elaborate approach than Boodle Boodle Boodle, with an important place given to organ, minimalist arrangements and a strong instrumental dimension. The EP reached No. 4 on the New Zealand charts. Released after the band's first separation, Getting Older is a testament to their more experimental approach, between production like "Wall of Sound", brass, viola, maracas and drone guitar. His B-sides take experimentation even further, notably with "Scrap Music" and "Whatever I Do is Right/Wrong", recorded without guitar. These vinyl reissues, the first since 1982 and the first available in North America, have been remastered by Tex Houston from the original tapes held at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
